Pōhutukawa Tree

The Pōhutukawa tree flowers from November to January. It's often regarded as New Zealand's Christmas tree. It's striking in appearance at this time of year due to the brilliant red flowers it produces. This tree is hardy and can be found on lava fields (Rangitoto Island) and hanging from cliffs. It can be found in less harsh places too and is a kiwi icon. This shot was taken at close range to show/highlight the brilliance of colour.
